General Information
Huazhong Agricultural University will host the 2014 ICGI Research Conference in Wuhan, Hubei province, China. The Chinese government and others such as Hubei Huimin Agriculture Technology Co., Ltd, etc will support the conference.We expect attendance to be around 250. It is mild at the end of September in Wuhan.
The conference will be held at the International Exchanging Center at Huazong Agricultural University (IAXC/HZAU). The local organizer will make reservations for attendees registered through this ICGI website. Deadlines
Please complete the Registration Form to register for the conference and the Abstract Submission Form if you would like to be considered for an oral or poster presentation. The registration deadline is May 7, 2014 for submitting a title and preliminary abstract, so that ICGI steering committee can make decisions on regular orals, mini-talks and/or posters before May 15.
Passport and Visa
All travelers entering the China need to have a valid passport and a visa to enter the country. Visa processing times may vary, so be sure to apply early. Travel
Wuhan, composed of the three towns of Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang, is the capital of Hubei Province. Wuhan is the political, economic, and cultural center of Central China. The three towns, separated by the Yangtze and Hanshui rivers, are linked by bridges, and because these municipalities are so closely connected by waterways, Wuhan is also called the “city on the rivers”. Being the largest inland port on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, Wuhan is one of China’s most important hubs of water and rail transporation and communication. Attendees can arrive in Wuhan by airplane from Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou international airport to Wuhan Tianhe airport, or by express train. You can arrive in HZAU in one hour from the airport and the Wuhan, Hankou, and Wuchang train stations. Wuhan has an old history and rich cultural traditions, and there are many tourist attractions such as East Lake, Yellow Crane Tower, Guiyuan Temple, Tortoise Hill, Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, etc.
Accommodation
Members who registered at ICGI website will automatically be given a room at at the International Exchange Center at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU). The hotel rate for ICGI 2014 Conference is about US$60 per night including breakfast. Lunch and dinner will be supported by sponsors. For attendees with special dietary requirements such as medicine or religious reasons, please contact Dr. Zhongxu Lin (linzhongxu@mail.hzau.edu.cn) and Dr. Xianlong Zhang (xlzhang@mail.hzau.edu.cn) before July 31.

Host Organization
HZAU is a university with strong background of agriculture and bioscience with a history of more than 110 years. Its precedent, Hubei Agricultural School, the first agricultural institute of China, was founded in 1898 by Zhang Zhidong , governor of Hubei and Hunan provinces in Qing Dynasty. HZAU is multi-disciplinary including agriculture, science, engineering, humanities, law, economics and management, featuring bioscience and giving prominence to agricultural disciplines. Our research is mainly related to crops such as rice, rapeseed, cotton and citrus etc., animal sciences, fresh water fishery, food sciences, environment, agricultural economy with various forms of research programs provided.
Currently, the university has more than 1,400 faculty members, approximately 17,000 undergraduate students and 6,000 graduate students on campus. HZAU has a vibrant campus of about 5 Square Kms with breathtaking natural beauty, located at the Shizi Mountain and surrounded by the South Lake. The subtropical climate, abundant trees and harmonious environment all make the campus an ideal place for study and research.
The Cotton research group is a major group in HZAU, and also influential in China and in the world. Our research includes cell and tissue culture, protoplast fusion, functional genomics of fiber development and resistance, molecular marker genetics, and breeding. We have obtained signifcant financial support from the China government such as NSFC, “863 project”, and “973 project”, etc. We have published many research papers in international journals and books. We have also released 4 upland cotton hybrid cultivars.
Other Local Information
Banking/Currency: Currency exchange facilities are available at most airports, banks and hotels. There are also many banks at the campus, and it is easy to exchange currency. Credit cards are accepted at many locations, and the most common are Visa and Master Card.
Business Hours: Most office business hours are from 9:00am-9:00pm Monday-Friday. Post offices are open 8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Banks are usually open from 9:00am-6:00pm Monday-Friday, but Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are widely located and available 24 hours a day.
Electricity: China uses 220v plugs. As this is different than most other countries, you may need an adapter or we can supply.
Medical service: The university hospital is very close to the IAXC, some ailments can be treated immediately.
